So Jonathan said to his armor-bearer, “Climb up after me; the Lord has given them into the hand of Israel.” – 1 Sam 14:12
Johnathan and the armor bearer had gone out to face the Philistines. Johnathan has the right heart, he trusts that the Lord will take care of them and deliver the out-post into their hands. He is confident in God and His ability to succeed, especially where men cannot.
I want a heart like Johnathan’s. I want to know that God has already won the victory. This is what gives a person confidence in the Gospels. That confidence is now found in Jesus Christ and His victory at the cross and through the resurrection. I can now say, “Oh death where is your sting, Oh grave where is your victory.” (1 Cor 15:55) This is the key to understanding this life and living it with joy.
Jesus has already won my victory. I no longer have to fear the world or death or anything else but God alone. For He has won the war for each one of us. A great verse in the song “I am Redeemed,” says, stop fighting the fight that has already been won. Jesus has won, all I have to do now is live confidently in that Gospel truth.
For Jesus did not come to give me fear or discontent. No, He came to make me content in the knowledge that I live. So, now I can focus on what is important in this life and that is bringing this same confidence and Gospel to all who are in need. I must now make everyone aware of the joy that awaits them in Jesus Christ. I don’t have to sit on the sidelines. No, He is my rock and my strength; He is the reason we will win the victory.
To God be the Glory,
