So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall! No temptation has overtaken you except that what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. – 1 Cor 10:12-13
What temptations do I face each and every day? Many! With this country in complete chaos as to all the images in front of us and all of the justifications for sin, it is easy to be tempted in our world. I must be on guard for my soul all the time so that I will be ready for the temptation when it comes and then I can turn to God, my Salvation, for the way out.
However, many times I think I am doing just fine. I am great and there is nothing that can tempt me. I have overcome all of the addictions. I start to get a bit arrogant in the salvation that God has provided and I can fall into those temptations because my heart has not been on guard. The Devil never comes at us when we are ready. The flesh never tempts when we are fully trusting in the Lord.
No, it is in the quiet lonely times. The times when no one is looking and we are not seeking first His Kingdom and His righteousness that we find ourselves in the thick of it. So, when you think everything is going great and there are no temptations present in your life, look around and make sure you are on solid ground and not quick sand. We must stand guard at all time, less the thief come in and rob our thoughts.
So, today, as you look around and as you begin your day, think about the Lord. Think about putting on the armor of God. Think about good things and focus on them. Focus upward and not inward. Do not let you guard down, lest we give the Devil a foothold in our thoughts or in our actions. Let us stand on the firm ground of Jesus Christ and remember that He is our rescuer.
