Now the Spirit of the Lord had departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the Lord tormented him. - 1 Sam 16:14
Saul had abandoned God and His will. He had failed to do all that God had asked of him. So God rejected Saul. This means that all of the benefits of being with God have been revoked for King Saul; God’s peace, hand of protection and contentment left Saul. Saul really didn’t know what he had until it was gone.
The same dangers apply to me and my relationship with God. If want to continue in the blessings of God then I must remain in Him and in obedience to Him. When I reject His instruction in life, then I open myself up to the realm of what is evil. Now, this is not an oops I messed up and repent type of thing, I am talking about willful and open defiance to God.
God’s patience is infinite; however, it is not God that is the problem, it is me. God cannot remain where I don’t want Him to be. He will not force Himself upon me and will not force me to follow His ways. This being said, I can only experience the goodness of the Lord when I am with Him and walking His path.
If not, then the Spirit can depart from me and I will be given into the realm of evil. This does not happen by accident but can happen if I choose to continue to be willfully disobedient and live in sin. When I am living in that sin, then the peace, comfort and protection the Lord will be withdrawn.
For those not found in Jesus, you are already there. You are at the mercies of the evil in this world, both the physical and spiritual. Evil spirits are not allowed to torment believers because the Spirit is within us and He has the power to reject such things. But if you are not found in Christ then you have no such protection. This is why we see so much suffering in the world, too many have not come into the blessed peace of Christ.
So, today I beg that the Lord keep me on straight and narrow paths. That He continue to bless my life with His Spirit. I am always openly inviting Him in not just in word but in deeds. And the Spirit then guides my paths and keeps me eternally secure in Him, thanks be to God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Make your vow each day to remain in Him and if you aren’t found in Jesus today, then find Him any way you can and see what peace can truly be.
Thanks be to God,
