From this time many of His disciples turned back and no longer followed Him. – John 6:66
Jesus had just finished talking about the flesh and the blood and how the people would have to partake in them to be in the kingdom. This message was just too much for them and they gave up. They turned from Christ because they did not understand what the message meant.
So aside from the obvious parallel of people falling away and the scripture being 666 (lol), this is an important set of scriptures. People had not counted the cost of following Christ and when the road got tough, they turned back. When they found a teaching they just could not support they turn away.
How is it with us in the Church, do we do the same today. Many are turning away from God because His message is too harsh. People aren’t allowed to have sex before marriage, people have to be faithful in marriage, we aren’t allowed to lie, cheat or steal. Furthermore, we are to stand against things that have become social acceptable such as abortion, homosexuality and transgenderism. For many, the message of God has become too hard and they have fallen from the faith.
It is more than that too, people don’t have time anymore either. You want me to show up more than just Sunday for an hour, that’s just asking too much of the Church pastor. Our country needs a wake-up call. More and more turn from the faith just because they don’t like the teachings anymore; it is too hard to stand in the face of such adversity. And then we wonder why the Church has no credibility, well it is probably because it is filled with too many complainers and too many will to fold with the gentlest breeze of adversity comes their way.
It is time to stand Church; to stand together in the face of such opposition and tell the truth of Scripture. It is not outdated and it is not obsolete, NO it is just as applicable today as it was 2000 years ago. Stand for what is right, stand for what is good and stand for Jesus, for He is the bread of life.
God Bless You All,
