They were angry with Jeremiah and had him beaten and imprisoned in the house of Jonathan the secretary, which they had made into a prison. Jeremiah was put into a vaulted cell in a dungeon, where he remained a long time. – Jer 37:15-16
Israel is under siege by the Babylonians and they are tired of hearing from God, through Jeremiah, that they will be taken into captivity for their sins against God; for their failure to repent. Now, as he was leaving the city to do his duty as priest and prophet they find a reason to arrest and beat him, thinking to silent the Word of God.
More and more the world is going to try and silence the Word of God. The world is moving more and more away from God and His message to a self-centered society. We must take steps now to reverse this action in people. We have to be the Word to the World. We can no longer be side-liners, but must get into the game.
For nothing can silence the Word of Love that the Bible has as long as we are willing not only to speak it, but to live it in our actions toward others. Truly God’s way is a better way and so we have to show the world this better way of living. We do this when we believe and act as Christians in a world that is full of hate. When we love and show Christ in a world that is full of hurt.
I have to see people as God’s creation and as the target for God’s Word. Knowing that He created them the same as me. And if I can be changed through the Spirit than anyone can be changed by the Spirit if they choose to be changed. For the Word of God is powerful and mighty and can change the life of its hearer in an instant.
In a world full of people searching for purpose and to be loved, let’s give them both through Jesus Christ our Lord. And what better way to present that than to not be silent, but to speak forth the Word of God that is full of love, mercy and grace. That takes away shame and guilt and replaces them with fulfillment and purpose in life. Let’s take a stand against evil in this world, simply by being and spreading the Light of Christ.
To God be the Glory,
