But all the evil men and troublemakers among David’s followers said, “Because they did not go out with us, we will not share with them the plunder we recovered. However, each man may take his wife and children and go.” David replied, “No, my brothers, you must not do that with what the Lord has given us. He has protected us and delivered us into our hands the raiding party that came against us.” - 1 Sam 30:22-23
David has realized that it was God’s victory against the Amalekites and not their own. It was God who protected them and delivered that Amalekites into their hands. It was not their plunder, but God’s plunder that He allowed them to take. In realizing this, David does what is right and equally shares the blessing of God with everyone.
What am I doing with the blessings God has given me? Do I say, that is my blessing and I will do with it what I want or do I share the blessing of God with everyone? This is a tough concept in our capitalist society of the United States, which states what I have earned belongs to me. However, I must remember that every blessing I receive whether in pay or in deed, is from the Lord and it belongs to Him.
He is allowing me to be a good steward of that money and so I must ask what His will is in every thing He has given me. Am I frivolous with His blessings or do I use them to give glory back to Him. It does not mean that it cannot be used for me or my family, but that in being used we must remember that it is for God’s glory and that I must receive it with thanksgiving.
The idea extends double to our salvation, the highest blessing we can receive. Am I keeping that blessing to myself or am I giving that out in the same measure it was given to me. The blessings we dole out to others are based on the blessings we have received.
So today as you pray, pray in thanksgiving for the blessings you have received. Pray that you do not forget what the Lord has done for you. And finally pray that God would put someone in your path today that you can heap blessings upon and in doing so honoring God and all He has done for you.
To God be Thanksgivings and Glory Forever,
