Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you. And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.” – John 20:21-22
Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. – Gen 2:7
I love parallels in Scripture, they reveal so much to us and give us a glimpse into God’s will from the beginning of time. God’s will has always been that man live and live with Him in harmony and relationship. After the fall, we lost that ability. There was a gap that man could not span, not with the strength of all of his efforts.
But now we have Jesus Christ and we have a new Spirit breathed into us when we come into the new life. Here we have the disciples, embarking on a new life and we see the first baptism of the Spirit upon the disciples. Now they had already been baptized by water, through John, but now they were baptized in the Spirit by Jesus.
This new Spirit, the Holy Spirit is a gift granted that we may now have new life. Just as God breathed life into the first man, so Jesus has breathed a new life into all who come to follow Him. What we do with this new life is up to us. We have the ability to do great and wondrous things in his name or we have the ability to sit on our couches and soak up the blessings.
What will you do with your new life today? What mountains does God want you to move in your life today? Are you willing to wield the power of the Spirit to save souls, repent and change your life forever? God gave us this new Spirit, praise and glory be to Him for the life that it brings and the mountains that will be moved!
