“The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing His work.” John 14:10
God the Father worked through Christ when He was on the Earth to show His glory and power. He gave Him authority to act on His behalf and Jesus did great and wonderful things. But now, Jesus has gone to the Father, but He still works in us through the Spirit.
It is the Spirit within those who love Him and have accepted Him doing the work. As a pastor, I have to remember this when I have a great sermon or do some acts of kindness. I can take no pride in anything good I do, because it is not I who does the work, but the Lord in me that allows me to be righteous.
He has become my righteousness that I may do good works in His name. This is to show others who He is and not who I am. I in and of myself have no power to do anything good. If I could I would have done it before I knew Him. However, my acts were selfish and deceitful and for my own gain.
Now that I have the helper as my focus and word, I now have opened up for the Spirit to do good and righteous things through me. I have become a weapon for the Lord, giving life where it is needed most; winning souls through the use of the Spirit and through His Word. All that is required is that I stay out of the way and let Him work.
God be With You,
