And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route. Matt 2:12
The wise men were being played by Herod so they would find the baby for him that he might go and destroy this child, Jesus. But in the end, God always wins. That is probably one of the most comforting things I can remember as a Christian in this life, God always wins. God cannot be defeated because He has no equal, no rival able to defeat Him.
I must remember this, then, when sin comes my way, when I am faced with all sorts of temptations in life. God always wins. When the Devil is beating down my door with accusations and discouragements, God always wins. When people attack me and try to put me to shame, God always wins. When depression tries to set in and life tries to destroy my joy, God always wins. That is the same power of God in me, God always wins.
But to have this victory I must be in His word, I must be able to recall His glory to face down the demons. I must be in His love, that fear cannot take over. I must be obedient to His rule, that the Devil cannot penetrate through to change. God always wins, but only if I stop fighting and hand the victory over to Him. The only way to do this, complete surrender.
That’s right, I must surrender to win. I must become less that He might become more. I must let go of myself and allow Christ to become my identity in this life. I may be unique and I may be different from any other, but I have this in common with all men, that I may turn to Christ, that I may die so that I can live.
All people have this choice in life. We can either choose to be bogged down by the world and what happens in it, or we can choose to rise above it. To do that, I must remember, that the victory is the Lord’s. I cannot win without Him and the only way to come to that is through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. For those who have that relationship, rely on it, trust in it, don’t try to be good, let Him be good for you, just be obedient to His ways. For those that don’t, find a pastor or a Christian and get to know this Christ that can save, get to know this God who always wins.
