Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it and you will find rest for your souls. – Jer 6:16
Jeremiah is prophesying for the Lord, at this point God says if you would just ask which ways are good and then follow His instruction they would find rest. It is as easy as that, ask of the Lord and He grants if we will follow His ways. Too many of us are chasing dreams that lead to nothing other than more heartache and toil instead of rest.
I love peace. I love the peace of a quiet morning in the fall with a gentle cool breeze and a hot cup of coffee. I love the peace that a restful vacation brings. I love the peace of knowing there is nothing pressing and nothing pulling me in different directions. I love peace and rest. To garner this rest I must trust in the Lord.
Yet, for most days we toil and labor, never asking and never requesting from the Lord rest in our lives. I can be the worst at this, I go each day thinking, I got this; I can make my own way. However, it is usually when the exhaustion sets in that I realize, that if I would have just done it God’s way to begin with, it would have been easier and probably full of peace.
What is it in your life that is destroying peace? Have you asked for rest from the Lord? You must ask what the good way is and then follow that way. I have been the victim of asking what the good way is and then doing my own thing, falling into the pit of chaos instead of peace. Will you follow the good way, which can only be found in Jesus Christ our Savior.
James 1:23-24 tell us about hearing and doing the Word of God. Let us not forget who we are supposed to be and who we are supposed to represent in this life. If we follow the Good way then, we will do and be that example. If we don’t we will only find chaos and despair. So, today, let’s follow the Lord and let’s find peace and rest for our souls.
