Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. – 2 Cor 13:5
Do I examine and test myself in the faith? How often do I examine myself in my faith? What is this examining that Paul is talking about to the Corinthians? These are great questions. The testing comes from understanding and following the truth. He says a couple verses later, “For we cannot do anything against the truth, but only for the truth.” (2 Cor 13:8)
So, our test requires us to stand for the Truth no matter what and in any situation, I can never make an excuse for the truth or try to justify not following the Truth, that is what is means to be a Christian. Observing many congregations and denominations of the Christian faith has brought me to question Christianity in the US, why have we gone on to forsake the truth?
The truth of that matter is, they have forsaken the testing of their faith. Our faith will be tested from time to time, but I must be willing to stand for the Truth in the face of so much adversity. Yes, the Bible is controversial. Yes, people do not like what it says. Yes, people will deny its validity. However, they will be wrong and on the day of judgement I want to stand before the Lord and say I stood the test of my faith; I stood for the Truth.
I cannot care what is popular, Jesus was not popular during His time either. What I do care about is that the Bible is one of the most reliable and un-refuted texts ever written in history. Time and time again they try to prove it is invalid and time and time again they come up wanting. So, I will follow the Truth laid out before me in Scripture and will not justify or excuse anyone who stands against its truth.
Today then, will you join me in examining ourselves. I want us to take a good hard look at what we believe and why we believe it. I want us to genuinely ask, do I follow this Jesus or just some shadowy half-truth. Am I all in with Scripture, or will I choose the crowd over the Truth. Today, I want you to stand for the Truth and put on the armor of God. Do not let popular opinion or hate drive you away from it, because God will stand with you through the trial and your faith will be rewarded.
