Christmas is an exciting time of the year. There is something special about this specific time that the Christian world remembers the birth of our Lord Jesus. It is hard to say just how many people actually understand the “reason for this season” verses the number who considers it just another Holiday time to be off work. From the Christian perspective we understand the importance and significance of the birth of our Lord Jesus. He left Heaven to live among his creation and finally He laid down his life for us on the cross then after 3 days He was resurrected from the grave and is now at the right hand of God in Heaven.
One verse keeps surfacing: Matt 1:23. We may not understand its significance.
Matthew 1:21-23 (NKJV) 21 And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”
22 So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: 23 “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”
Immanuel is the first name given to Jesus describing “WHO” he is. Immanuel means “God with us”. How fitting it is to see and know the basic idea of who this Jesus would be. His purpose is to be with us now and through eternity and to have a close relationship with us now as well as through eternity. The message of salvation revolves around our inviting Jesus into our hearts and there he abides with us. It is interesting that the first name given to Jesus means “God with us”. This is God’s ultimate idea for each of us, that he wants a close relationship with each of us through His Son Jesus or Immanuel.
Blessings to each of you as we remember the birth of our Jesus this Christmas season.
