What do you think? Most would probably say “no”. But, when you think about our God and how he created everything in the universe, He spoke it all into existence. Adam and Eve walked and talked with God in the Garden. Moses talked back and forth with God a number of times.
Exodus 33:11 (NIV) 11 The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend. Then Moses would return to the camp…
There must have been lots of back and forth communication between God and Moses. Moses would then convey a message back to the people. In the Old Testament we see that God would also communicate to the people through the Prophets.
But what about today, 2000 years since the resurrection of Jesus? Does God still speak to us? Here is what the scriptures say:
John 16:12-15 (NIV) 12 “I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. 13 But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; He will speak only what He hears, and He will tell you what is yet to come. 14 He will glorify me because it is from me that He will receive what He will make known to you. 15 All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what He will make known to you.”
Since we have Jesus in our hearts and we have the Holy Spirit as our seal of salvation and in Hebrews 13:5 it says that “never will I leave you, never will I forsake you”, God who spoke the world into existence and spoke to men in the Old Testament, it would certainly be in God’s character to continue speaking to us today.
So, He does speak to us today through the Holy Spirit who is our guarantee of what is to come. As we are moving on to maturity we need to make sure we are doing our part to just “listen for the Holy Spirit as He speak” to us.
May God open our ears and minds that we might get to where we are hearing the voice of our Lord and Savior more and more each day!
Blessing to you all this day!
