2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV) 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
I like this verse because it speaks a truth to me. Since I have invited Jesus into my heart I am told I am “a new creation”. I like that and as brothers and sisters in Christ you should also. It means that in Christ I am not the same as I used to be before I came to receive Jesus.
I am a new creation. My spirit is completely changed and saved. Not only that, but I now have the Holy Spirit living inside of me. I now have the life and nature of God living inside of me. Hebrews 13:5 (NKJV) 5 … For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Since I have the life and nature of God inside of me that makes my conscience a reliable source of guidance. Look at it like this. My conscience is the voice of my spirit which is now in line with God. The problem we all have is this. Have we learned to listen to our now Godly conscience or do we more often than not just listen to our fleshly mind that is guided by our five external senses? This is where the battle is that rages on and influences our decision making processes. This is what the Bible talks about in being Double Minded in James.
So how do we come to get better at listening to our conscience and listening to that still small voice inside of us? It revolves around the Word of God (Bible). Three things come to mind. First we must be in the Word meditating and learning it. Second, we need to practice using the Word in our lives. Third, we must believe the Word and give the Word first place in our lives. 2 Corinthians 6:16 (NKJV)16 And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will dwell in them And walk among them. I will be their God, And they shall be My people.”
We all have a lot to learn and we need to be maturing in the Word of God. And now may our God open the eyes of our hearts that we might know Him better understanding just who we are in Christ.
